Cameron calls fan an a-hole

Just like we (the common folk) would not accept they "Hey, I'm famous" excuse for their bad behavior, we should not accept the "Hey, they're famous" excuse to treat them as anything less than human beings.
Jim, every once in a while you post nuggets of wisdom or perspicacity that just leap off the page. Thank you for posting this one.

The last "semi" famous person I've met was Drew Carrey, I said "Hey, I've liked all of your TV shows."

He said "thanks. Whats your name?"
I said, "Evan."
He said, " Hi Evan I'm Drew, nice to meet you."

I said thanks drew. I know who you are. We both had a laugh. I said nice to meet you and he went on his way. What so hard about this?

If I did this with cameron I'm sure his reaction would be the same. If this guy handled it differently... If he was a fan... He would have been respectful. I just think as long as you treat them like you would treat any new person you meet. You'll be okay. You wouldn't walk up to someone you don't know and scream and yell at them with a camera in your hand.

Although on the other hand. There is no reason to be a rude bastard to someone because you're famous, if they are of course being nice to you. I see no reason a "famous" person should be rude or even meanly/coldly deny an autograph or photo. They get a lot of our money to lead the lives they have so it's sort of part of they're "job". So to speak at least in my opinion.

You know, you get more bees with honey.

James Cameron probably makes about 15 an hour now too after going into so much debt on Avatar.

It's at $625 million worldwide right now according to Box Office Mojo. Even though a production budget hasn't been confirmed anywhere, it's projected at $450-500 million, which would mean that it's actually made money. I don't see a debt in the numbers for Cameron or the studio that produced Avatar.

As for the OP's link, the answer in short is that yeah, he probably could have just signed it. But put yourself in Cameron's position. That fan is one of the hundreds, maybe thousands of people who do that to him day in and day out. Cameron may be some sort of film genius, maybe not, but he's still human and that still has to take its toll on you. Eventually he's going to get pissed especially at a fan who thinks that someone owes him something since he spent his own money to see the movie. Cameron isn't in the right for what he did, but I am on his side in this because I would have done the same thing.

There's no published budget for the picture - $220 - $250M has been bandied about in the trade rags. It might not be crazy based on what we've seen during the push on Avatar to believe that they spent $200M in prints and advertising.

It's a staggering sum until you look at Titanic's $1.87B worldwide take and realize that a $400M+ gamble might not be that crazy after all.

Quick Simpson's quote time:

Lisa: Oh no, I've lost my perspicacity!
Homer: Well, it's in the last place you left it.

Back on topic, can you imagine what a delight this guy is when he asks a girl out?

It might go something like this...

Guy: Hey girl, I'm a huge fan of your body [of work]. Do you wanna go out?
Girl: No. That's ok.
Guy: Come on! We'll go see Avatar ...at the matinee? I'll sneak you in.
Girl: Already seen it. In 3D. Please leave me alone.
Guy: What?!?! In 3D?!?! .....So you think you're better than me? Do ya?!?!
Girl: [no response]
Guy: Hey, everybody! She thinks she's better than me. Ms. Fancy Pants, who paid $15 for a movie ticket, thinks she's BETTER THAN ME!!!
Girl: Every word that comes out of your mouth justifies my decision even more.
Guy: Wooooaaaahhhhh! I guess if you can afford a $15 movie ticket then you can afford big words like that too.
Girl: [gets in her car]
Guy: Hey! Fancy Pants!! I lied!! Your body is ugly!!!

I haven't read the whole thread, just watched the video in the first post, and Cameron's comment is shown out of context. The video, to me, is intended to present a different representation of what actually took place, and meant to harm Cameron's character.
I see it for what it is, a lie by omission of truth.
