Cameraman Rates for live event

I have landed a rather large project Exec Producing a live concert event and am preparing the labor budget. This event will happen in early May. We are using a mix of SDX 900s and HVX200s handheld to cover this.

This event will be packaged as a DVD so I need experienced cameramen. Where can I find typical going rates for 1/2 day just to prep and full day to shoot. Where can I find production crew for event videography rather than Craig's list and here. Would rather hire freelancers than union. Any forums or boards?

This job is in Los Angeles.

You might see rates between $35 - $50 / hr based on 5 and 10 hour minimums in the LA market. It is paramount that you communicate the 1/2 day set - rehearse schedule during negotiations, not once the crew shows up to work.

well you can find camerapersons for 200 - 2500 a day ...
you need to see what kind of budget you have to pay so you don't waste somebody's time if their rate is 1500 day and you're only paying 300.
also you'll need to see what kind of operators you need .. steadycam , handheld, crane with camera remote .. and do you need a DP or are you hiring a lighting director that will light for camera's ...

just how does somebody land a LARGE project as exe producer and doesn't know how to find crew other then craigs list ??
IMO get a production manager or line producer that knows LA & what it takes to get a crew for this type production
