Camera4Decks, best choices

Hey everybody,

My old Canon vacation camera which Ive successfully used as a deck for 2 years has finally broke down on me. The heads may be damaged cause everytime a tape is put in there, it will screw it one way or another. Its 8 years old anyway.

Anyways to the point: I do not have the money for a serious deck right now and would like to know your best choice for a miniDV camera4deck? Your experiences with one as well and something that can take the logging and capturing of an editor.

Thanks my brovas

I just read your second post as though you were pissed that no one had responded.
So to actually respond, I'd look for a used Canon Elura40 as a replacement. that's what I've used for the past couple of years as my DV deck.

yeah, I have been using the Canon Elura2MC. TWO!! as in one digit. Im sure theres been some advancements on the 40 once I get it. Thanks

I have problems playing back DVCAM on my Canon..ie it doesn't work at all! My Panasonic will normally play it back, but it depends on tapestock. I know that sounds weird, but is true!

I have found that for a cheap playback handycam, Sonys tend to be the best. It is often handy to play back DVCAM as well, which every Sony I have ever seen will do. They are tough little buggers too.

I'm not so sure you can play a DVCam tape in a MiniDV camera.
I know the PD150/170's are switchable but not most MiniDV cameras.

I've done it loooooadsa times. I am a PAL man, but that shouldn't make any difference.

I have NEVER had a Sony cam (miniDV) refuse to play a DVCAM tape, mini size obviously, not the full size! My Pany does it on good days, but seems to be fussy about what tape stock was used (TDK used to be best, but not anymore). The Canon XM1 and XL1 won't do it at all. They won't play LP tapes either.

That's all from my experience, don't know if it is on paper anywhere.
