Camera suggestions for outdoor doc..?

Hey gang, my group is looking into documenting an upcoming charity/sporting event and we aren't sure what would be the best camera for our purposes. If possible we are looking for something that would give us a film look with a quality suitable for say a TV promo. This is for a charity fund raiser and we are aiming to team up with local tv/radio station. The promo will be mix of outdoor footage of the sporting event and indoor footage of the charity group. We are paying for this out of pocket so of course we want to spend as little as possible. That being said the promo is big part of getting sponsors on board so a "professional" look is important. We have been looking at the Sony Xl2, but I wasnt sure if that would meet our requirements.

Any information/tips appreciated as we are very much amateurs. Thanks. -JB
 
DVX all the way (Canon makes the xl2). The freedom you will have with the smaller camera will be a big help with sports and people.
