Hey All,

I am interested in taking shots from the top or hood of my car. Just interested on your methods of shooting this way. Main concerns are 1) my hvx being damaged or falling off 2) getting somewhat smooth shots, taking into account its on a car.

Thanks for any input

Can you give us some more specific information on what you are shooting. Are you shooting into the car...driving scenes...out the windows...out the windshield? We've gone so far as to have the DP on the hood shooting into the car...5mph...no speed involved. It all depends on what you are shooting. There are all kinds of car mounts that you can look at and then make your own...but make sure you have additional straps on the camera to ensure it doesn't go bouncing off the pavement if your rig falls off the car. Use your lens choices to simulate speed so you can drive at slower speeds. Wider lenses show incrreased speed coming to and from the camera, but slower speed going across/perpendicular to the lens. Long lenses would show a reduction in speed to and from the camera, but increased speed crossing in front of the lens. Plan out your shoot so you can safely accomplish it. We've also shot CU's into the car from higher angles...the car is not even moving, but we shake the car to simulate it. We used fans to blow the hair of the passengers...coudn't tell we were in a driveway. Get creative.

hey kess,

Thanks for the detailed response. Much appreciated. I am looking at shooting from the hood and side of the car. Do those suction cup mounts work well? Do the damage the paint on the car at all? Do they lose suction?

Thanks
