Camera + Rain = No good?

David, I'm sure that lying about how your camera got wet and having your accidental insurance cover it is illegal in some form, but exactly HOW bad is it? Is it more than a fine? and I'm sure they can tell the difference between it being in a pool and rain (different elements and all that), but will they spend the money to pursue that? It is ethically wrong, but is it illegal enough to throw you in jail for. To sort of illustrate my example, I've seen people walk into a phone store and say "my phone stopped working and no, I didn't drop it or did it get wet". The salesperson opens up the phone, checks the little tab that says if the phone has gotten wet or not and tells the person, "I'm sorry, your phone has gotten wet. There's this little strip back here that changes color and it is not covered by the warranty". The person says, "Okay, thanks for your time" or chooses to argue - whatever their choice, they usually end up walking out of there without being cuffed and thrown in the slammer.

Also, in terms of bad advice...what did the OP actually expect to receive other than insults and bad advice in response? I mean, yes it does suck - but come on, there's no real "LEGAL" way to solve this problem, other than telling a little white lie. That may "soil my character", but quite frankly that means nothing to me on an internet forum.

The OP asked for advice and others have given it as far as I can tell.

Dunno. Depends on a lot of things and it varies somewhat from jurisdiction to jurisdiction (don't know much about the details of Canadian law), and it depends on how much of a bother someone who might press charges wants to go through. It also depends on what you do and the degree to which you do it.

But it's fraud, and fraud is illegal, and punishable by imprisonment.

I just had a vision of a t-shirt!

Couldn't resist..

Oh, and maybe if he lets it air out it will be fine. I mean I dropped my phone in a lake and it was not working but after 3 days it was just like new!
