Camera Question

I realize this site and many more are flooded with "what camera to buy" but at the same there are so many coming out every day and also there are good ones that are "outdated".

I am looking for a camera in the 2k range that I can use in personal filmmaking and also commercial use.

If I had to choose I lean to toward getting paid gigs and attracting people with a great image but somethign that will treat me good as far as ease of use.

Looks like I will pick up the Black Magic plus they're having that deal for $500. The EF adaptor is like $700 + batteries and some digital media and i'll be good to go

Don't know if the 'deal' is still available for the 1/2 price on the Pocket Cinema Camera.

For under $2K, I'd suggest the GH-4, however, with a lens it may be a bit more than $2K...

Good choice with the blackmagic for a >$2k. Most of the under $2k are all going to be around the same IMO, with various trade-offs. If you're leaning towards getting paid gigs, the blackmagic name is going to get you slightly more jobs than the gh4, especially with all the people out there refusing dslr's without having any idea why (as compared to all the people demanding "red" cameras without having any idea why... or my favorite, "Red, Alexa or 5d mk II or similar" those always make me chuckle)

It all depends on what you want to shoot, and your budget range. Different cameras are optimized for different kinds of shooting. Some of the categories include:
Shooting weddings.
Stealth shooting where you want to look like a tourist.
Vacation camera.
Filmmaking.
Run and gun/documentary shooting where speed is important.
Equal balance between still and video.
Corporate work.
These are just a few of the possibilities. Then there are other issues, such as high dynamic range, shallow depth of field, a desire to shoot 4K, low-light shooting, etc. Gradually you start to gravitate toward certain cameras, depending on your needs. It's impossible to name a "best camera."

I've been shooting on Red for the last year but there's times i miss my 5d2... DSLRs can be tricky but they still produce a nice image.. if i only had 2k to but a camera i'd be going back to a 5D2

Also what about a c100? How much are they going for these days?
