I would like to purchase a video camera and am considering the dvx100A, the Canon xl2, and the Sony Z1.
My primary uses would be diverse – backgrounds, elements (sometimes even stills or footage to be keyed/rotoscoped) as well as straight footage for broadcast motion GFX (often manipulated in AfterEffects), shots and footage for video projection – mostly fine-arts/graphic/sculptural type work and some commercial trade show projections, and also for shooting a bit of documentary type (mostly interviews) material. I’d like to be able to edit, if possible, in FCP.
I’m particularly curious to know which camera’s footage might perform best when projected, and if anyone has actually used footage from these 3 cameras on affordable (say, under or around $3,000) projectors. If you’ve worked with a particular camera/projector combination that you were satisfied with, I’d really like to know.
It’s all somewhat daunting (as I am not wealthy and have to make a versatile and durable choice), and much of the discussion here is beyond my scope, but I appreciate other’s experience and find it all very interesting.
I would appreciate any advice that you may provide regarding a camera choice for my diverse needs. I fully realize that no camera in this range (or any range) can or should do everything.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated…
