camera not recognized

I posted earlier about this, but I think I understand the problem a little better now... my computer fails to recognize my AG-DVX100A when I plug it in and turn it on. The computer beeps like it always does when I plug in any new hardware, but it doesn't do anything else. Nothing shows up on the taskbar or in the Device Manager.

I think this is the reason why Vegas 5.0 fails to find a capture device. I downloaded Premiere Pro 1.5 to try it also but it also can't find a capture device.

I'm pretty certain my firewire port and cable are working properly since my iPod is fine (also, my OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller is listed in Device Manager as working properly).

How can I get my computer to recognize my camera? Is there some driver I'm missing, or something I can install to fix this problem?

Thanks,
Dan

Re: camera not recognized

How many firewire ports do you have? I had that problem on my G5 when I plugged the FW in the front port. The computer didnt recognize my camera. When I plugged it in the back it worked fine! Now the front port does work because I plug my ipod in it all the time. Are you using FCP? If so, you might have to select one of the several firewire options in the Audio/Video setups.

Re: camera not recognized

Well, I'm working with a PC laptop... it has a built-in firewire port and I also have a cardbus adapter that has USB 2.0 and Firewire ports in it. None of them work with the camera, but seem to work with the iPod just fine. Does anyone know of any downloadable drivers or updates for my firewire to make it work? or for the DVX?

Re: camera not recognized

Try shutting off your computer, turning on the camera in VTR mode and then turning the computer back on.
