i have read that when using the dvx100 you always need to film with a tripod and be very smooth just like 35mm camera like they use in the movies. what problems would i have if used it handheld, also does the only apply when shooting 24p mode
many thanks
Depends what look you are going for POV, usually looks nice when done with a bit of Handheld, but if you are going for the pro look, steady shots can only be achieved when the camera has a support system, eg. Tripod, crane, dolly, sand bag, etc...
You can also get away with some very controlled hand held movement and then stabilize the footage using tracking in After Effects. It's not ideal as you loose a little res (very little actually) but it can work quite well when you don't have any other options and need smooth camera movement.
if ur trying to understand something u read somewhere, then I'm guessing they were discussing the "strobing" effect which takes place when u pan or tilt quickly while shooting 24 frames a second.
A lot has been writting about this subject but really, shoot stuff in 24p and if the quick pans look weird to u, investigate the subject more, if u cant really tell, dont worry about it and shoot more.
