Camera mount for iPad or tablet

I'm trying to find a mount (cold shoe, 1/4", or 3/8") or arm that will let me mount an Android tablet on top of my camera (AF100). I know that they exist for iPad, thought I'm having difficulty finding them online. But it needs to be adjustable because I have an Android tablet, which isn't going to have the exact same dimensions as an iPad.

I'm wanting this for a basic teleprompter setup. I'll probably get the Pad Prompter when I have a little more to spend on it. You can mount it to rods or a light stand. I would definitely go the light stand route. I like to keep it simple.

Thanks!

Take a look at this: http://www.peavey.com/products/index.cfm/item/874/118295/TabletMountingSystem

It's just $25 on Amazon.

It also comes with a clamp and arm to give you other mounting options, and appears to be adjustable for use with various sized tablets. Don't own one so I can't say for certain what sizes, but for the price it might be worth checking out.

Then use this little 5/8" to 3/8" adapter

Or if you want a hot shoe adapter:

If you get it, please do let me know how it works.

That looks pretty good. With the shoe adapter and in landscape orientation, I don't think it would cover the lens. It says that it will fit "other tablet PCs by changing out the mounting claws". So that's a bit unspecific. I'm going to check into that.

The dimensions of my 10" Android tablet are 261 mm x 179 mm x 8.95 mm. Whereas the iPad 3 & 4 are 241 mm x 186 mm x 9.4 mm.

I'm waiting to hear back from a local contact who I think has one. I'll report back here either way, if I figure something out.

Just found this review.... bummer. http://www.zzounds.com/productreview--PEVTABMOUNT

Just an advisory for anyone looking at this item for use with other than an Ipad - keep looking. I ordered this based on the "other tablet pc" blurb and it will absolutely not work with ASUS or Samsung 10" tablets. You receive 2 different sets of snap-in arms which are not in any way adjustable.A shame, since overall it seems like a decent enough unit - simple, reasonably sturdy (I'd consider epoxying in the arms that work with your Ipad), and a decently strong mic stand mount. But if you're not using an Ipad, don't bother. So I'm not giving it bad numbers - if you're an Ipad user it would probably do just fine.......

I've got an Asus, so.......

Ah, yeah, that's what I was thinking with the way that it was worded. I'm going to keep looking!

If you're not averse to a little hacking (literally!) there's a universal tablet mount for cars that comes on a gooseneck.

You may be able to use just the mount part and rig something that can screw in where it attaches to the gooseneck.

OR

Assuming it's a solid gooseneck (almost certainly is) you could cut it and use a die to cut in 3/8" threads.

I have this tap and die set and while it's not the best, it has still been invaluable for my little DIY projects:

Or get an Ultrapod and take it off the legs and mount it to where the gooseneck attaches to the mount. (You'll need put a short pin though the hole in the mount to act as an axel. Hard to explain, easy to do. No tools required.)

Then of course, you also have a great little Ultrapod which has all kinds of uses. I have an Ultrapod I bought probably 15 years ago and I still use it for things all the time.

I have this and use it with my AF100. Fantastic teleprompter, especially for the price. Before I got this, I was using a computer monitor on a stand situated just below the lens. Eye line was never right. It's amazing how much better the eye line looks using it. If you can, spend the extra and get the rod adapter, it is quite annoying, at least in my situation, to have a light stand and the tripod so close together for it. So much easier on rods.

That looks great! If only it worked with tablets other than iPads!

Yeah I just pulled it out to see if there was any room to trim away some of the corner holders to make more room and there is, but I think the maximum long dimension with that mod would be about 255 mm and not sure how well that mod would hold up anyway.

Keylight, those are some good ideas.

I used my tablet as a teleprompter today. It had to be held above the lens by hand since I still don't have any kind of mount. But it was my first time using it with my tablet (I did the same thing with an iPad a few weeks ago), and it worked great! Of course, shoot through would look better, but you could barely tell the talent wasn't looking into the lens. She had come prepared with the lines memorized (not paid talent), but she was still having a hard time. So, luckily I had brought this and it went smooth as butter.

That's great to know. I'll probably go with it, then, when/ if I start getting lots of projects that call for it. Honestly, rods annoy me and I don't have any. lol. So I'm thinking the light stand way would work for me. But if I bought it and decided that I wanted to go the rod route later on, I'm sure they would let me buy that part separately. I actually emailed the company to see about my tablet fitting. They said that it wouldn't fit directly into the molded area, so it would sit on top of it. But that if I let them know when I order it, they would custom change the dimensions on it, no charge. Really great customer service.

I have this one that I've been very happy with: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004N7P25Y/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has a tripod mounting hole in the back and is very sturdy. Fits an Ipad perfectly and adjusts on the short distance, but not sure how well it would do with a tablet of different dimensions.

With this, do you put the iPad below the lens? Do you find that it looks just as good as being above?

I've not used it below the lens. I use a manfrotto magic arm to put it wherever I want it.

Looks like it might just work! Hope you'll post a video review. I'm going to be hunting for other options at NAB and will post if I find any.

I'll do a review with photos. I've never done a video review. I sure would like to go to NAB, but I can't justify the plane ticket, entrance ticket, and hotel.

NAB is not something I do every year, but it's really great for researching new tech and gear, and making decisions about where to spend limited $$ on equipment. I probably see/learn more about where to invest my limited $$ in equipment for the next year in three days, than I do the rest of the year.

And entrance (to the exhibits at least) is free with this link: http://registration3.experientevent.com/showNAB131/Default.aspx?App=EO&Passcode=SMI01

Hotel isn't too bad. I think I'm paying about $80/night. The plane ticket is the worst of it. But don't forget, this is all tax deductible as a business expense since you're in the business.
