Camera Monitor

There are a lot of camera monitors out there, but it seems they all do at least one critical thing wrong. I've yet to find one that has a correct 1280 x 720 native resolution screen. Even when they're close, they're still not quite right at 1280 x 768, or 1280 x 800.

Is anyone aware of any battery powered 1280 x 720 monitor with an HMDI connection?

A 1280x768 or 1280x800 monitor should be fine, as it will just display a little black band top and bottom (or better yet put some useful data in there). So it will display a 1280x720 signal pixel-for-pixel at the right ratio, and most monitors will scale down a 1080p signal and preserve the ratio. Certainly the Ikan D7W (just got it!) does this right, as long as you set the aspect ratio to 16:9.

From what I've been reading, it doesn't do that though.

Well, of course it depends on the monitor, but I would hope that any decent monitor would do the right thing. All I can tell you is that the D7W does.

Good luck finding a 1280x720 monitor, but I think it will be tricky; that would be a custom panel, and a low-volume product like this wouldn't justify the cost. I'm guessing that most monitors re-use phone or tablet displays, and they're mostly set up for 16:9 plus a control bar.

I've been looking really hard at the D7w... looks like a GREAT monitor for the price. Care to do a quick and dirty review of it, Atticus? Would really appreciate it!

I'm actually planning to. This weekend would be possible, but I may be working all weekend (sadly, not movie-related). Quick thoughts -- works well, solid, a little simplistic in the features but works as advertised, having waveform on site is GREAT, worst issue -- needs xacto knife work to get the battery into the Sony battery plate.

Thanks Atticus, that sounds good.

Do you have any experience with the DP6 and the TVLogic 056WP? If you do please include that with your thoughts as well. Can't wait for a full review! (But take your time :Drogar-Happy(DBG):)
