Camera insurance

Hello

I dont know if this is the place tp pose this question. So i bought a Canon 5d from someone on craigslist. And i didnt realize but the seriel number has been scratched. I no longer have the sellers info and cant contact him. I was planning on getting insurance for my camera. But can i still get it without a seriel number? I know it was bonedhead me of not looking at number. But i was just concerned if it worked correctly or not. Any help would be appreciated.

Fairly certain I was required to give a serial number on everything when setting up my insurance. Of course some things don't even have serial numbers, so who knows. Would probably be best to just give your desired insurance company a quick call.

I wasn't asked for serial numbers when I insured my gear. All they wanted was model numbers and replacement cost. I would definitely contact your insurance agent about this.

Did you get a receipt. The last time I had to make an insurance claim I was asked for a receipt to 'prove' I owned the item that was stolen. I don't recall being asked for the serial numbers otherwise.

On the other hand, when I have registered my equipment for trips outside of the US, the form did require serial numbers...
