Hey guys. What's a good quality crane out there under $500. Also a good a mic and boompole?

Have a great weekend,

Re: Camera Crane Recommendations?

crane - skycrane jr. www.skycrane.com - very nice, easy to use, nothing too fancy or complicated, very simple design that is easy to setup and the controls work really well for pivoting the camera while it's up in the air.

boompole - gitzo carbon boom pole under $200

microphone - what for?

shotgun mic - sennheiser me66 with k6 power module, you can get a nice package with a rycote windscreen

lavalier - audio technica - at-899

wireless - sennheiser evo - get the combo and you get both a lavalier mic/transmitter and a plug on transmitter that plugs onto the base of a handheld mic (this is a big help because it can also be plugged into the soundboard at a show for wireless audio while still being able to roam around.

i have all of these and they have all served me well, especially the two mic's, the me-66 has been a real workhorse and for the money its great, the at-899 has done some wonderful interviews and the sennheiser wireless has been used a ton without fail.

Re: Camera Crane Recommendations?

The Cobra Crane II seems like it would be for a full size cam. Wouldn't the Cobra Crane I be appropriate for the DVX?

Check out www.studio1productions.com for a boom pole for under $100. They also have a crane/jib. I can't vouch for how good they are.

Keep in mind, that in most of the $500 or under cranes you need to supply your own sturdy set of tripod legs - you have to work that into your costs.

Check deeper into this section and you'll get plenty of advice about shotgun microphones and camera cranes. I'm not sure how much discussion has gone on about boom poles.

Re: Camera Crane Recommendations?

I don't have any cam crane experience. So I can't comment on that. I like my K-Tec boom, but I hear that Gitzo's are good as well. For the mic I would say the AT897.
