Camera choices

I hope this is in the right place, sorry if its not.

I'm posting here today because I need a bit of advice on the matter of cameras. Im currently working on a short war film called Pathfinders: The Fall of europe (working title) and trying to move through pre-production as quickly as possible. I need to make a decision on what cameras to work with as my broadcasting school has several different models that i can use on this production.

I was hoping someone with a bit of camera savvy could tell me the strength and weaknesses and what differences in image quality they might have. Also will it make much difference shooting with two different cameras (i assume so but im not sure how similar the cameras are). The models i have access to are:

DSR 500 (5 available)
DSR 570 (5 available)
HDX900 (3 available)
PD100 (1 available)
PD150 (2 available)

Thanks in advance
Michael

Well the HDX900 will be best in terms of image quality as the others are all SD... it really depends on how many cameras you will need (No more than 3 id imagine) and if shooting HD is the best way to go in terms of workflow.
If you shoot SD then you should be alright mixing the DSR 500 and 570... and maybe some PD150 if you shoot in 4:3....

Hope that helps a little.

Tom

The DSR 500 is terrible in low light and the quality is no better than the PD150. I owned both of these cams a 10 years ago and ended up selling the DSR 500 and used a couple of PDF150's.

HDX900 is DVCPRO HD on tape. Plus, its the only HD camera there. 2/3" sensors (1 million pixels, I believe). Shoot in 720p24 and it should be really comparable to the tape based Varicam. You shouldn't need more than 3 cameras anyway.
