Camera Capture Weirdness

So I noticed today that when I capture clips using my DVX Vegas has no problem detecting framerate and pulldown. When I use my deck camera (JVC circa 1999) the clips properties are coming up as 29.97. I've captured the same exact footage with the two different cameras and this is what happens. According to David's tutorial the camera that you use to capture shouldn't matter right? Is it because the JVC cam is too old or is something else messed up?

I thought I did say that there might be an older deck or camera which might not work correctly . . . an older machine which doesn't transfer all of the metadata with the footage. Pulldown flags would disappear in that case.

this is the exact same thing that happens for me too, i am using a canon xl2 and vegas 8.0 and sux cuz i just bought the canon AND vegas

Well, there you go. Vegas Movie Studio doesn't remove pulldown at all. There's no 24p in it. You need the full version of Vegas for that.

So it is the camera then? That's what I was afraid of, looks like I'm going to have to buy a new cheapie cam. Thanks for taking a look at it though David!
