Camera Assistant Service Pedestal

Hello, I am currently piecing together my first camera assistant's cart. Since it is my first I want to start cheap and instead of jumping right into magliners, I want to work my way up to that point.

So for starters I am looking into getting the Rock n Roller carts (Below) (specifically the R12RT All-Terrain) http://www.rocknrollercart.com/products.php
With the cart I will get the bottom shelf and the top shelf along with the extension rack (for tripods etc)

I'm continuing to customize my cart and I want to add an equivalent to the sliding base mount for the magliners. (Below) http://www.filmtools.com/bacmagslidba.html
Seeing as though the dimensions on this particular magliner accessory won't fit the Rock n Roller Cart, I want to come up with an alternative.

So I was looking into adapting the JC camera service pedestal (below) to serve as the same function. http://www.filmtools.com/jc-camera-service-pedestal-jc1013.html

I will mount this to the top shelf of the cart for building the camera. (I primarily use RED's so I will be mounting dovetails to this set up to hold the camera)

So my question is... is this feasible?
Is there a better alternative for this kind of set up?

Is there a cheaper solution to the pedestal (instead of paying $350)

Keep in mind that I am on a budget. And although I know you ultimately get what you pay for, I am looking for a cheap but effective set up to accomplish the job.
If I could, I would buy the Magliners with the desired accessories, but in my situation I need to compromise.

Thanks for your professional feedback.
