Brian,

in an earlier post you wrote:

Watch a couple of good action flicks and record the best segments into your computer. Then, cut up the scenes on put them on a timeline and DISSECT exactly what they did, shot by shot, take paper notes of the exact scene order and composition, etc. That's the best way to learn to edit, imho. And, a great way to learn to stage scenes, probably. Good luck.

I've always wanted to try this but i don't know how to get dvd footage into premiere. maybe i'm overlooking something but I'm pretty sure this is illegal so they make it difficult. what are the steps?

thanks,
chris

it's not in the manual pookie. but it wouldn't matter if it was, cause all my stuff is pirated. i've actually never bought anything in my entire life, believe it or not. brian just said this like he knew how to do it. the reality of the matter is, i think, it's hard as hell. but no sirius, anybody can answer. especially since brian bowed out.

Well....depending on the copy protection there are several ways. Of course I don't condone ripping DVD's for any illegal use, but if you are interested in doing what Brian said, here's two choices.
1 - Hook up the outputs of your DVD player to the composite inputs on your DVX and then firewire it through the camera. Most times this will not work because of the CSS encryption.
2 - Rip the DVD using any of the millions of DVD ripping software and then use one of the vob-avi converter software programs to convert it to a usable format.
