calibrating for editing audio

My Xmas present this yar was a pair of audio monitors to help in editing audio on my Vegas system. So out go my soundblaster speakers and in go my rather heavy new m-audio monitors.

My question is this: how do you go about adjusting (or calibrating?) new speakers so that you can accurately edit audio. I would like the end user to hear as close to what I am creating sound wise.

Im a bit rusty in this area, but I know is has something to do with the referance tone that reads -20db, but after that I'm lost.

Thanks in adavance for anyones help,

Ed

do you plan on doing the final mix on your system for your projects? If not, then it's really not all that big of a deal. I'm assuming you are not working in an acoustically "good" room (that's not an insult, btw. i'd say that 80% of the people cutting sound out there are working in a bad room, including myself).

So...calibration isn't as important as having a master fader in your session where you can see your level, and know you are not distorting. I do that every time, and I have never had any problems.
