I thinking about using the windows secondary display in Vegas to preview HD video. Can anybody direct me to a tutorial where I can learn how to calibrate a computer lcd?

Hi Bart,

From what i know calibrating an LCD can be pretty strenuous. Secondly, if your looking to preview on an LCD never ever expect that it will look the same on a TV. So most members here use a broadcast grade monitor that is CRT based and color accurate. Any secondary monitor can be used as a preview monitor by just dragging the preview monitor into it. But the actual way to do previews is to do what ive mention up there. I edit on a dual screen setup and its been to tough to just get the 2 monitors to match each other in color tone. Each LCD has its own persona when it comes to color tones. There are also some calibration discs that help you do this. And even then theres no guarantee that the 2 monitors will look alike when you exit vegas and work with other applications.

The Spyder from Datacolor is a great way to calibrate LCD computer monitors. I use it here to calibrate a number of LCD monitors from different manufacturers and it makes all of them look amazingly consistent. The Spyder software can be used to calibrate monitors to a number of different standards, in the case of video, like NTSC or the ITU709 HD standard.

John, I wrote Colorvision and ask them which Spyder to buy in order to calibrate to the ITU709 HD standard and they wrote back and said that they only calibrate to the ICC Standard of color. How do you calibrate your lcd monitors to the ITU709 HD standard using Spyder? Which Spyder do you use Express, Pro or Elite?
