Calibrating a on camera monitor, where to begin?

Hi!

So I just recieved my HDMI monitor for my camera set up. My question is; When calibrating the lightness, contrast, saturation, and the R G B levels (color temp wil say), what should I compare the image too while calibrating? My HMC151 monitor or something else?

My goal is to make it that precisely calibrated that I never need to adjust it again while using this camra, and being able to skip the HMC lcd totally.

Do you have any good step by step tutorials or a tip or two about how adjusting?

I hope you guys can help me out =)

You didn't state what monitor you purchased. The manufacturer should have a routine to run through using the firmware within the monitor.

Sorry, I was thinking that there is one procedure that you do with all monitors no matter what brand. It is a Ruige TL480HD. Darn nice product for the price, but as all other asian products the instructions and tutorials aren't really that good (if they even have it).

I've checked via colorbars from the HMC (it has that function built in). But people say that the HMC screen is bad when it comes to judging colors and exposure/contrast.

Just a thought: If i hook it up to my computer via the HDMI port, is it possible to use the windows calibration tool for monitors and adjust it accordingly to that?

And lastly: I can adjust the Red green and blue also, they are default on 128 on each, should you adjust these? (the default seems to be pretty good as they are)...

Thanks for that vid, I will try to follow it. I'll just connect the monitor to my computer and try to find pictures that looks like that (since I'm in premiere cs5 I don't think that I have all those different types of color bars). Thank God that this monitor actually has all of those functions including the blue only, black and white, so hopefully it should do the job.

Right now it's about just the same as my HMC monitor..
