Calibrate Display

I spent hours on finding an answer online but there's just not much information available about this.

Is there a way to calibrate a DVI display with the use of color bars for rec709 (display does not have a blue only mode)? I read on a couple websites that there's no point in calibrating a DVI display with color bars because black levels etc. are already "hard calibrated" with the DVI standard. This didn't make any sense to me, or can somebody shed some light into this issue?

Howdy. Well if the monitor you're trying to calibrate to Rec.709 is also your OS / UI monitor well then no - there isnt any way to do it.

If its a second monitor I have heard time and again people getting reasonable results with the Matrox MXO. Ivd never witnessed it personally myself - but its what I hear. Nothing will get you as accurate as a calibrated monitor being fed HD-SDI, but that also means spending considerable money.

REC 709 is a colorspace. You can adjust a displays color / hue to achieve as close to REC 709 that your display will allow you to do. A 6 axis CMS will allow you to get ALLLLOT closer to 709 because it adjusts , Saturation , hue and brightness for EACH color.

rec 709 is NOT cable HD cable specific. REC 709 is the standard for HD film so , component video cable , dvi cable , hdmi cable, dual dvi , HD-SDI , all work.

when calibrating though , make sure your source is outputing in Chroma YCBCR 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 , not RGB.

whats your source , whats your display?
