Just wondering if anyone is going to enter the cake music video contest for their new B-Sides and Rarities album. The group’s offering fans a chance to film a video for their version of Black Sabbath’s War Pigs, which appears on the album. The creator of the best clip will be awarded $1,000.

Good chance for us to represent!

I believe Bjork is offering a contest as well. Good times for aspiring music video directors.
 
Has anyone actually benefitted from these, aside from the bands? As far as I recall, many people got screwed over in the Incubus contest.
 
Not sure if anyone actually benefits from these contests but it seems like more and more artists are subscribing to it. Bjork and cake seem to be true artists in my oppinion and I would be disappointed if they decided to screw other artists for their own personal gain.

with that said I think it would be cool if someone from the dvx community decided to represent.

Well it doesn't hurt the artist at all - they put out a song and a bunch of people send in music videos. No sweat off their backs, and if they like one then they get it for a fraction of the cost of the actual cost. No wonder they're all jumping on the bandwagon.

My concern is about the people making the videos. If we all run around making music videos for these guys for a "grand prize" of $1000, that just drops the market price of a music video to something that people can't really live off of anymore. That's really my concern.
 
The established music video maker probably would probably not benefit from these contests, but the the up-coming director I would imagine that it would be great exposure for thier work, and a chance to get their foot in the door
 
Here we go again ;)

My opinions on these contests? I love 'em.

It gets me out there shooting, I get to use a song from a band I actually enjoy, it's [potentially] fantastic exposure, and you get free concerts out of them ;)

If I was happy with my music video carreer at this moment, I wouldn't bother, but I'm not there yet...
