CableCam

Has anyone built a homemade cablecam. Im looking to design a linear cable system to have a camera glide across to track an object from high above. Possibly strung between two trees in zipline fashion

It's very possible. Run it on pulleys and electric motors controled by an R/C plane controler.

I'm building a system that will lower the HVX straight down the center of a tall staircase to follow somone walking down. I'm working on the sketch right now.

i definately wouldn't trust my ingenuity to hold several thousand fragile dollars high above the ground but i am sure you are better at stuff like that than i am.

good luck and make sure to tell us if everything works out well.

Don't forget the dangers of that same several thousand dollars falling on your head, possibly at speed! Anything like this should be significantly overengineered just so the safety margins are really big. There's a reason why the pro systems cost so much.

Good point, but I think that's a given.

Money...that's why they cost so much. There are not many things in the electronics world that deserve their pricetag and systems such as the spydercam are no exception.

I think it should be easy to run a camera along a cable in a fixed position, but I could not set up a motorized head to save my life. Maybe the VariZoom heads can be modified to work wirelessly...hmmm

im trying to think of what type of cable to use. Something that wont stretch but it somewhat inexepensive. possible 1/4 inch in diameter
