Cable question

Hello Listers,

I want to take the TAL output from my sd302 and route that to dual (two channel) XLR inputs on a recorder. I have a similar cable the goes from TAL to 1/8 (two channels), but can't find a pre-made cable to XLR. Any suggestions....a soldering iron isn't an option.

TIA

Hmmm... just in case, to state the obvious... why not use the XLR outs of the 302?

If it's cause you're feeding something else with those, just chain your 1/8 stereo cable with an 1/8" to dual XLR cable...? Is your existing 1/8" cable male or female? If it's female, there are tons of options designed for feeding an audio system from, say, an iPod. You can probably find one with a female connector, or, if not, get a barrel coupler... a lotta cable, but it works!

Thanks Ullanta,

In this case, I want to take the 302 mains to the cam, and be able to feed a signal to a recorder via the TAL plug and XLR line-in on the recorder. I used to do this with my DR-100, but the line-in on that recorder is 1/8. My new recorder has XLR line-in. Am I way off on this work flow?

Trew Audio, Coffey, et al would make up a cable for you at a reasonable cost if none are available off the shelf. I gather you want a TA3F to 2 XLR3M 'Y' cable. Remote Audio (Trew) does have a stock cable, part # CASDT, that has a TA3F to 1/8 Stereo TRS if that helps. In deciding what to feed from the main outs and what from the tape out, remember the mains are at pro line level but the tape out is at -10 consumer line level.

+1 for Trew Audio. From experience I can tell you that a) TA3 connectors are a PIA to solder, and b)Trew can take care of you.

Thanks Dave, that's what I wanted. Searched as I might, couldn't find it. How long is the cable? In a bag, can you make it from the 302 right side TA3 out to a left side in on a recorder?
