Cable cameras are really expensive to buy, and as I already had a 3-axis gimbal that I use on an RC helcopter, I thought it would be a cinch to make a cable cam rig.... It wasn't super easy, but not too hard, and only cost about $300 in parts including a 500' cable. There's a seller on ebay that sells PVC coated aircraft cable for really good prices.
I will post some pics of the rig later, but here's a video with a bunch of shots from it. This was the first test and while there were some issues, it worked out pretty well. It can get up to about 30 mph and so it EATS UP 500' very quickly. I did have one 'crash' into the trees, but everything was fine. Shot with the T2i.

Not the most useful tool in the shed, but I can't wait to do the obligatory Super-fast flight through the woods, narrowly missing trees. Mainly it's a way to get a moving aerial shot in situations that are too dangerous for the helicopter.
