c4d shadowing question.

I'll try and put a little vid together Josh. It may be later tonight or tomorrow.

thanks a lot raptor that would be fantastic. I managed to use the shadow catcher plugin and it did the trick but still would be nice to know the real way to do it.

I sort of skimmed through this from the beginning just now, so maybe I missed a few details... but regarding the OP, I didn't see anyone mention to try using 'camera mapping' as your texture projection.

Maybe I'm a step behind here, but I think to have a shadow appear on the ground like that, I think you just angle a floor plane at about the same angle to the camera as the ground (as you did) and apply your b/g texture to it using 'camera mapping'.

I'm not too familiar with the process through... just offering a possible alternative.

Yep I've heard this is what a lot of people do. I used multipass but a separate render maybe the way to go!

thanks

That's the only way I could figure out how to do that also.
I noticed in addition to the Shadow Channel, I had to include the RGBA channel as well else it would not produce the seperate shadow layer.

Normally I render seperate light passes. I've never rendered seperate shadows before.

I don't use the shadow catcher plugin, I've just used the example as described in the tutorial at the beginning.

The eclectic blue laser thing I made in AE with particular and faked the shadow for it and it worked pretty well too.

After reading this thread last night I started playing around with some camera mapping:
