C4D and illustrator

Anyone familiar with Cinema 4D?

I've imported an illustrator path into C4D and have place it under the hierarchy of an extruded nurb to give it the 3d depth. Now I want to be able to select the front side of this shape to apply different materials to different parts. However, when I click to make the object editable, I am unable to select or edit any parts of the object.

I can create text in C4D with splines and an extrude nurb, then click make object editable and select the different points / or polygonal sides. But for some reason it won't let me edit my illustrator logo that I imported. Any tips would be great.

never mind, I figure out that I needed to change some of my vector/spline hierarchies so that they were all directly underneath the extruded nurb object.
