C-Stands

Re: C-Stands

The more popular brands are Matthews & American. However, the Avenger series made by Bogen is probably the wisest economical choice.

B&H carries Avenger and Matthews.

I'm not sure if EVS carries them but you can check them out at http://www.evsonline.com.

You can get the C-stands in a few flavors... standard, Rocky Mountain leg, C+ stand, etc.

The Rocky Mountain C-stand has one leg that can be slid up and down the stand's center post and locked into place. This is useful for placing a stand on a staircase or on the side of a hill or... Rocky Mountain.

The C+ stand has a "turtle base" that can become detatched from the main post. The turtle base is actually the legs and feet of the C+ stand. Without the stand you can place a 'butt plug' (5/8" pin for fixture mounting) in the Turtle base and have an extremely low but strong light stand. The C+ stand is also good for transporting as it breaks down into a shorter package than the other models.

The standard C-stand has a 3-leg base that stays attached to the stand and allows for the 3 legs to be folded in a parallel fashion for storage and transport.

There are also small/baby C-stands available.

Personally, I have (1) small Bogen Avenger C-stand, (2) Matthews C+ stands and I want to get another small Avenger and a Rocky Mountain C-stand.

Remember: When it comes to rigging something with a C-stand's gripheads... "Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey". If you are booming a fixture or something 'kinda heavy' out from a C-stand, then you would want the weight of the item to be placed in such a way that it serves to 'tighten' not 'loosen' the griphead. This can usually be achieved by simply turning the griphead in the direction which would allow this to happen.

Re: C-Stands

I can vouch for Avenger quality, I've got some of their C+ stands and some of their mini-base rocky-mountain small c-stands, they're great.

Re: C-Stands

Rig to the right.

THE fundimental rule of gripping. Rig to the right.

Facing the stand, your weight should extend from the heads with the handle on the right side ONLY. If the arm or flag extends out with the tightening handles on the left side, the joint will loosen with gravity.
