Any advantage to standard c-stand over stairleg or turtlebase? I assume there might be difference in what a standard can hold and also one might want standards in a studio setting . Prices are very close at least at b and h for Matthews so the main consideration is flexibility. Wish american was less expensive. Thanks.

I purchased almost all of my C-Stands used at a substantial savings.

As far as stair leg, I think I have only used one 3 times in over 30 years. Turtle base can be useful for transportation.

Your mileage may vary.

All but two of mine(10 total) are turtle base. I keep the two non-turtle base loose in the back of the truck for quick/easy access and the rest are broken down and packed in gun cases.

FYI: Four 40" complete turtle base C-stands(base, riser, arm) will pack neatly in a Pelican 1750. Five will fit, but the case gets even more ridiculous. We call the case with four in it "The Widow Maker".

The 1750 case sounds like a great solution Run & Gun. David beefy babies are on the list as soon as I can.

Most of my C-stands are sliding-leg versions, use that feature constantly. Turtle bases are handy if you need more compact stands for transport, and particularly, they're great for mounting lights down low - switch your riser out for a junior-to-baby pin.
