Buying Used Wireless Audio Recommended or No

Would anyone ever risk doing this? I mean wireless lapel mics and everything can get pretty battered and dinged up - how can I tell if this has happened if I don't have years of listening experience behind me?

I want to get 2 wireless mics (lapel style) with transmitters and receiver to plug into my ex1.

Any recommendations?

Budget - used: $300ish - new: $600ish plus

There are a few places offering the Sennheiser G3 system with ME-2 lav for $450/channel. That is probably the best bang for the buck in the new market right now. The only thing I'd consider purchasing used would be lectro frequency agile radios. I'd buy new mics to go with them. But a used lectro freq. agile radio set is still running close to 2 grand per channel. Too rich for me.

There is nothing wrong to buy used systems as long they do operate.
Usually to be on the safe side ,try find these from former soundies who change their gear from time to time updating for new systems or just change the fq block they are working with.
If you need a list of places where you can ask , send me pm , there are about 5-6 good sites for used gear .
Usually people who sell there will not sacrifice their name for 500 bucks to sell you something that not match the description .
About wireless , in the price range you did mention and that you like them been mounted on camera there is no really any competition to g-3 or g-2 from sennheiser. With good lav it will sounds quit well on short range shoot ( up to 50 feet)without get to many RF hits .
Don't waste your money on 500 series , there is no any advantage in these , not sound wise and not in range .

Gpforet - if you use your wireless in the bag , 205 lectros with um 200 could be found for less the 800 a set and these are the best receivers in 200 range lectorsonics did deliver ( ext dc only ) , much better then g-2 , for a little more you can find used 211s.
Don't touch the 210s , antenna switching noise and shot range hits .
Or go for combination buying new Sr-5 receiver and used um 200 transmitters , still way better then g-3
By the way ,where did you see g-3 for 450 us$ ?

Looks like I misspoke. The dealer that was selling these for $450 was for a limited time and that deal is over. The best I could find right now is a few ebay dealers selling b-stock or refurbs for $465. I do agree that if you purchase used wireless thru someone like Trew or Coffey, then you're probably o.k. And yea, I carrying my g3s in the bag. I'll read up a bit on the 205s. I've really been eyeing the 400 hybrid although I have to say I've been very satisfied with my G3s running Tram TR-50s, and lately have been trying out the OST tram clones and have to say I like these as well. I recently had a tram disintegrate during a tumble scene. It was about 10 years old and the housing had become brittle and decided to try the OSTs. So far so good.

When i did mention to buy from soudies , i didn't have Trewaudio or Coffey on my mind :-)
The prices there usually have nothing to do with common sense or used market , people who consign their gear there , pushing the price up to compensate 10-15% they leave there for nothing :-)
Directly only, from people who work in sound , not from car dealers :-)
There is nothing wrong to buy B stock as few dents here or there have nothing to do with actual performers .
About OST mics , i have more then dozen of these , its the best bang for the buck between USA made lavalieres , no companies after almost year of extensive usage by students and my self , also, excellent customer service .

Lectrosonics 205 d need at least 250ma per channel at 12 v.
If you intend to go with , you will need at least 50w NP battery to finish a day if you run 2 like these and mixer from the same sours .
Never was a problem for me for years i used these , the 411s pull around 180 ma each , the sr5-about 120 ma .

Thnx for the advice olgak & gpforet. Sound world, a whole new set of intricacies. Help! Yes, would love to check out the places online you trust. I understand about the sound houses jacking up the price and want to avoid that. I just want 2 little wireless mics with transmitters & a receiver that work well. Really need to save money. (using my phone to write this, don't think it will instant message, internets down)
