Buying Tripods (Manfrotto 503 Head)

I know this question was posted before, but I'm asking a specific question regarding tripods.

I think the 503 head is a good solution. But, I need information regarding a corresponding legs.

I was actually looking at the Kit that contain

525MVB
503 Head
75mm Ball
Speader

Anyone have experience with this kit?

I was also thinking of getting the MDeVe 755B. You don't really need to buy a ball with that one and is a cheaper solution. How does it compare with the 525MVB

I need low angles, so the tripods have to have a low minimum height setting.

I use that kit everyday... the 503 head rocks and the 525 legs QR is way better than the old money QR they use in there lower models. Bag is good too.. comes with that kit. the MDEVE legs will twist on fast pans.. its more of a photo leg. and dont buy anything without a ball.. First setup when you are trying to level your head by adjusting the legs you will thank yourself.

Hrmm,

You guys are pressuring me to buy expensive accessories. :(

Know any good internet vendors?

EVS, B&H, and Profeel all have similar prices.

.. somtimes an artist is limited by his tools.. other times only by his imagination.. it sucks to be the first one.

Re: Buying Tripods (Manfrotto 503 Head)

evs will beet both B&H and profeel if you tell them your a DVXuser.com member.

As for pressuring you.. no pressure, I just dont want to make you waste a ton of money on crap that you will never be happy with and end up replacing anyways.

IF you plan to lock off all your shots and have no smooth pans or tilts, london drugs makes some cheap tripods in the $150 CAD range that will do fine. Just dont blame me when you tripod falls over and smashes on the pavement ha ha. (joke)

Re: Buying Tripods (Manfrotto 503 Head)

The image of my new camcorder dropping onto the pavement isn't too funny. But, I was kidding when I said you guys were pressuring me.

I would like to have smooth pans so I guess I'll have to spend the money if that is what I need.

And yes, EVS was very professional in my transaction. I'd definately buy stuff from them again.

Re: Buying Tripods (Manfrotto 503 Head)

Well got my new 503/525 setup today.
After some initial tests...it is smooth as silk.
Thanks for the advice Jarred.

I also got it all from EVS through Rush who gave me the friend of the family/DVXuser discount ;D

Re: Buying Tripods (Manfrotto 503 Head)

Thats good.. man we musta both got orders sent out at the same time.. Fedex came to my door Friday from EVS :)

Re: Buying Tripods (Manfrotto 503 Head)

You could imagine what Fed Ex is like delivering to Okanagan Falls (winter population 50) no big truck, no smiling delivery guy...just some courier who works the whole south Okanagan and is in a big hurry.

I also ordered the Westcott reflector( I think thats what its called) with Silver and gold, it is rectangular versus round. I'll let ya know how it works out. Courier guy couldn't find it hopefully it comes Monday.

Re: Buying Tripods (Manfrotto 503 Head)

Do you actually have a Fedex guy? Apart from this media biz I also own a courier company here in Vancouver and we used to do Fedex overflow from Whistler.. Fedex just basically contracts out delivery for thier small areas. (they have a truck now though that does Whistler) The bad thing about this is as good as Fedex is, if they contract out a fly by night company to do the overflow, you can get some pretty strange delivery problems, like dudes saying they attempted delivery when in fact they where goofing off at the donut shop and didnt feel like driving to your house that day.

Re: Buying Tripods (Manfrotto 503 Head)

Well I'll bust there ass tomorrow about the reflector.
I used to live in Brackendale so I know thee type...too many fatties.
Did you get a chance to do the review on the DVrig yet? Curious...
