Buying the M2 for my HVX - Questions

Hey Guys,

I knopw this has been addressed before probably many times but I need some quick answers here so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a corporate shoot in Vegas next month and we're going for the "M2 Redrock look", so i might as well buy one. I'm shooting interviews about 10 feet from camera (HVX200) with a very long background I want to blow out completely.

1. Just looking for some advice on what to pick up as far as lenses go, looking to get the manual Nikon lenses. If you picked up any Nikon lenses How much did you pay and which 2 or 3 lenses would be the best to get?

2. Cheap HD's monitors anyone? I heard that focusing is very hard without one.

3. Is the M2 Redrock the way to go? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Well, I can assure you that the M2 definitly is the way to go, first off!

Second: I went for Canon EOS first, then switched to FD (because I had some laying around too and wanted the manual aperture)...

So... if you already have Nikon go for them.. if not.. I would personally go for Canon FL/FD due to the fact that they are cheaper without being less good..
That is because all the old nikon lenses still work with the latest cameras, so they are more interesting to the photographers still...

Canon FD won't work on a recent Canon still-camera (without an adapter), so they are not as wanted as nikon.

Hope it helps you!

(there is a little workaround needed for FD lenses though... just to unlock the manual aperture, but I can supply you with more infos on that, since I did it myself!)

Max just a heads up with the m2. It works great but get some time to get it right before you shoot. I had a gg wobble I had to correct.

From a 10ft range Im thinking 80mm should do the trick.

thanks guys,

Reading up on the Brevis and it also seems popular around here. I've read alot of posts but no one really seems to know which is better. I guess they're just different.

OK, so an 80 mm, isn't that close to the stock lense on an HVX already though?

Thx

Hey Maxpower76-

I just received my M2 after researching all the other options. Gotta say I LOVE it! I bought the Hard Mount kit and it works perfectly right outta the box. The follow focus is extremely useful you may want to consider the HD Complete Package, it's nice having everything you need all at once if money permits obviously.

As far as lenses are concerned I chose Nikon. here are the four I just purchased.

1st choice - 50mm F1.4 - paid roughly $280.00
2nd choice - 85mm F1.8 - paid roughly $415.00
3rd choice - 28mm F2.8 - paid roughly $245.00
4th choice - 70mm/300mm F4.0/5.6 $180.00 (got a great deal on this one I think it's normally $320.00)

I use the Marshall 7" monitor with the Nebtek upgrade to the Panasonic battery. Very helpful to have this.

Hope this helps...
