buying oem?

Hi-
I've seen After Effects sold at websites as OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for much, much less than directly from Adobe.

I don't usually buy software that way, as something too good to be true is usually a scame somehow. But I was wondering if anyone had done this? Good or bad experiences? One site says they sell for so low because basically you download the software from their site, no manual, little or direct support from Adobe.

I don't mind having to figure out a software package on my own, but I don't wanna get ripped off.

As always, thanks for any tips or info to my neophyte question.

You get what you pay for. You're likely to get a limited edition or old version and certainly a non-upgradable version. AE isn't a package you just figure out. You'll need to buy a book if you don't get the manual.

I don't know, Scott... I have yet to read a single book on AE, pretty much figured it all out, only read a few small online tutorials. If you know Photoshop and are good in NLE environment it's quite easy to get started in AE. Just bookmark Creative Cow and Stephen Schleicher's page.

Then you've "pretty much figured it all out" to maybe 5% of what AE can do.

Tell me another one xl70e3, I've heard this one before......

Hey now... It was way back, version 5.5
And you know, people who wrote books also learned it by themselves once.
