Buying Lowel DV kit - Which case best to check on airplane?

Hey, I'm considering one of these two lighting kits for interviews I'll be shooting on a road trip (and airplane ride), the only difference being the bag/case:

Now, I want something lighter, if possible, and would probably lean towards the bag/soft case. I'm worried that if I buy the hard case I will be charged a lot more for checking it in for the flight. Will the softer LB-30 case be enough, or do I need the GO-85 case (which seems like overkill for me)?

Also, side note question, does this kit include frames and gels for all the lights, or am I going to have to buy those separately. B&H doesn't seem to have a detailed list of every gel/frame included. Thanks!

You don't want to carry that stuff - get a case with wheels. Also you don't want to take it as carry on as most likely you will be taking the camera as carry on, thus get the case that protects the most - the hard case.

So final answer: hard case with wheels.

Ah okay, and the GO-85 case has wheels, I take it? I'm headed to B&H tomorrow so I can double check there, but yeah, thanks.

Consider passing on either one of the cases. The advice to get a wheeled case is great, but I'd stay away from the Lowel cases- they won't live long, especially with air travel. The plastic is fairly brittle and prone to cracking in the corners. In short- they are junk. I worked on a show where the production company bought some of those cases- they only made it through a season and a half of air travel. Our gear was pallet shipped, not checked in the standard way.

Personally, I'd look into a Petrol, Pelican or Storm case with wheels. The Petrol will be a bit more, but you'll have it for years, and it will protect the gear far better.
