Buying lights - need suggestions.

I'm plan to buy some lights, 500 $ budget, but don't know anything about the brand names behind lights.

I've lit all of my shorts with just DIY "Home-depot" setups, so I'm unsure about the main companies.

So my question: what are the main companies currently on the market, and which do you guys prefer?

Thanks!

Arri, Mole, and Bardwell & McCalister are my favorites, some like Lowell (I don't they are a little too flimsy for my taste)

coollights....not like an industry leader or sumn...but used ALOT by guys here,,and is also a sponser of the site. Specializes in "cool" temperature daylight balanced lights but they also have a tungsten line.

You can find great deals on used mole equipment but it their stuff is usually pretty big and heavy and not super portable. If you are working in a studio type enviornment the Mole stuff is great. If not, I like the lowell stuff as it is small and light but powerful enough to get the job done. They are pretty flimsy however. With 500 bucks sounds like lowell is your best bet.

Thanks for the advice guys, jambredz: I will look into coollights after this post.

I was thinking about purchasing 2 Lowel Omno-Lights and a Lowel Pro-Light (I have stands and 2 umbrella's from photography), and any other lighting would be done with home-depot clamp lights.
