Buying Japanese

I actually run with a domestic HPX170 but im trying to set up a friend with a cheap setup. He's got his sights set on a Canon HF S11 (looks alright) and is looking to save some cash by buying one "new in box" from Ebay.
Any thoughts?

I supposed it's alright if the menu isn't in Japanese. Other than that there's obviously no warranty if if your friend is fine with that then there's no reason why not.
