A few choices.

1)
This if one of my first choices.

What do you think? It's all softboxes. So all of the light will be softer, diffused, almost sitcom light, correct? Is it good for beginners, as long as I don't want lots of control over my light?

2) I was contemplating getting 2 Smith victor 600 watt floods (or a cheaper or better alternative? I'm not sure what's good but chceap) and a softbox to go with it, along with a diffuser or two. I believe I can still make this light soft, but I can also control it pretty good. Comments?

Also, what is a foot stand? What are your thoughts on the kits? What do you recommend? Got any other suggestions? I'd like to be able to control my light fairly well and have it hard and soft, without spending that much money on it. It is my first kit so it doesn't have to be mindblowing and I really only need some good 3 point lighting stuff for starting out.
Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't go with three softboxes. Having one is nice, but not having a hard light source will limit you. You'd be better off having at least one fresnel. Remember, you can always soften a light, but you can't make a soft light hard (not in a practical way, anyway).

What are some good beginner hard lights with barndoors? What brand / product would you recommend?
