hey guys... here's a small question...

i found an offer of an used dv-deck... this one to be precise: NV-DV2000

http://www.dvt.com.au/products/panasonic/DV2000.html

it's a normal dv deck, but has a very nice infrared jog/shuttle come with it...

i could get it for 500 euro, 700 dollars

is it still worth it or should i rather get a cheap minidv as deck?

I used to have a PAL one of those - IT WAS TERRIBLE!!!!!!

Took it back and got a refund! Breakup EVERYWHERE! Brought another Panny that was nearly as bad. I may have been unlucky, but I stick to a sony DVCAM deck like the DSR11.

Yeah you can't go wrong with a DSR-11 deck but your not gunna find one for that cheap.

I'd rather use a crappy deck than a camcorder though.

The deck I got was REALLY bad. I would rather use VHS... well maybe SVHS. Having seen 2 like that, I would never trust another Pany (deck, not camera). I have never had a problem with any Sony Pro deck and must have use 10 or 20 different ones at least.

I've never had any experience with decks, but, I would get another camcorder and use that as your deck. So, you got a deck and a second camcorder for the price of one and much, much, cheaper than a deck.

I think that is a good way to wear out the heads in a camcorder over twice as fast or faster. Figure cutting the camcorders' lives in half or more and then coming to the conclusion that you should have had a VTR and extended the life of one of both of your cameras by more than double. If you do the math, I think it's cheaper to buy a $1500 vtr and an extra DVX. We did exactly that. By the way, just to have the heads aligned and cleaned on a DVX is around $300. We have a Panasonic AG-DV2500 and are happy so far. If you do events like we do you can't take chances on wearing out a camera and showing up at an event and making that horrifying discovery.

I never really got why decks are so expensive --- sure, you have a finer control over speed and such, but most such options can be had with device control through FCP or other programs.

The only advantage I see in getting a deck is to save wear and tear on the camera, but is this really worth it when you pay 2+ G's for a deck?

Just my two cents.

I wouldn't buy another deck now, as I would like to go tapeless... P2 will probably bankrupt me though :)
