Buying an HD camera duty-free from China?

Hey Guys,

I'm in the process of figuring out which "prosumer" HD camera I'm going to buy (I want something powerful enough to put together a decent portfolio, and big enough that people will take me sort-of seriously). At the moment, my options would seem to be the: the Canon XH-A1 and the Sony HVR-V1P, and maybe the Panasonic HVX-200.

Here in Australia these cameras (and every other HD camera going around) are ludicrously over-priced. However, my girlfriend is travelling to China in few months time, and I was thinking that she might be able to buy one of them for me duty-free (and with a considerably smaller mark-up over there).

Does anyone have experience with buying camcorders from China? I'd really appreciate any advice on this? I'm a miserly film student, so saving 30% (or roughly $2,000 AUD) on my video camera would be a BIG plus for me (i.e. allow me to buy a computer and NLE that I can actually use the camera on).

Thanks,

Mark
