Buying a shotgun(mic)

Hey does anyone know where I could get a reasonably priced shotgun mic (possibly with a boom) I will need 2 of them for my upcoming movie. Also any suggestions on which mic to buy would be greatly appreciated

I have the Audio Technics AT897 (about $250-300). Great mic, although I've little with which to compare it. Many here on DVXUser sing its praises.

I'm sure thats a great mic but I'm on somewhat of a low budget so I really need something more in the price range of about $50 I think, is there anything out there for that price with workable quality?. I found the Azden ECZ-990 is about that price(http://www.evsonline.com/merchant2/...e=ECZ990&Category_Code=3A1A2&Product_Count=2). I know nothing about it though? Does anyone know if it is a decent mic? If not can you suggest anything else in the same price range

I did a sound test yesterday for my Zombie entry and used a Peavey performance mic I had stashed out in the shed. Its low impedence and worked surprisingly well. Its not perfect but I bought it used about ten years ago for about $65. I had planed to buy a AT 897 for the shoot but I may be able to dress up the sound of this mic enough to make it work for the Zombie thing.

Today I'm doing a sound test outside at a distance to see how well it works. I don't have a boom pole so I may have to whip out some 100mph tape and one of my long catfish poles.( not going to be pretty). I have the money for the AT mic but it might be more fun to just see what I can do with what I already have at hand.

Well, the Azden is another choice, but it's a little higher (probably about 150). Between 100 Bucks and 300 bucks, we are still talking abot CHEAP mics, that are a real compromise in sond quality. That said, most people can't make decent (over 500 dollar) mics sound good because they know nothing about sound. So, let's see what you are able to get for 50 bucks and how do you handle that...

Tested the Peavey again today at various distances outside up to 50ft. Though I didn't think I was picking up the actors looking at the lcd I was in fact picking them up quite well. I wasn't using headphones so I went and turned the volume up. I still had great clarity and good noise rejection. I wonder how a Shure SM57 or SM58 would do with a mixer and a compressor. I didn't use either and recorded it flat with no enhancement. I think I can live with it for this project. Time will tell.

thx i'm looking for one as well, gonna check that one out when i actually have money :(

Azdens a good choice for an inexpensive shotgun. I don't know if i would stray toward anything lower than Azden. The quality will become an issue i think.

there is nothing under $300 I would recommend for a cheap shotgun. If I were you , I'd just rent.
