try putting this in the another section, this question has nothing to do with Sony Vegas
I am going to use Vegas 8 to do my editing so I would like Vegas user's point of view on which camcorder I should choose.

So, I went with the SONY. Now the million dollar question is: In what format do I convert it so that I can play HD quality in my TV?
I have a Sony Bravia 40" model: KDL40V3000 . It plays fine when I connect the camcorder directly to the TV. I just bought a HD DVD player SONY DVP-NS710H model and after converting in MainConcept MPEG2-TEMPLATE 1080-60i in Vegas when I put the DVD in the dvd player I get the message that the Disk cannot be played.
I feel really fraustrated because it looks like I wont be able to play any disks without spending big money on an expensive HD DVD player. I read the camcorder manual and it says: " The camcorder is compatible with MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 High Profile for high definition image quality (HD recording). Therefore, you cannot play back images quality (HD) on the camcorder with the following devices:
-Other AVCHD format compatible devices which are not compatible with High Profile
-Devices which are not compatible with the AVCHD format"

Is there any HD Dvd player (under $100) out there that will play MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 High Profile?
In what format should I convert in Sony so that I can get HD quality?

I do want to mention that I am using Sony Vegas 8 and DVD architect 5

Thanks in advance

Here is a solution:

Place your video files on Vegas timeline and edit as you wish. OK to keep the properties the same as the file format.

In the Tools menu select Burn Disc, Burn Blu-Ray Disc. The time limit usually is 25 minutes or less that can be burned to a SD DVD disc because of the storage limit difference between a DVD and a Blu-Ray disc.

Choose a template similar to your file properties: for example the appropriate screen resolution and frame rate.
Burn this to a DVD disc.
This Blu-Ray recording on a SD DVD disc should then play on a Blu-Ray player, such as a Sony Play Station.

You would need a Blu-Ray burner to produce an actual Blu=Ray disc.

Good luck.

This really sucks. So I have to buy a Blue Ray Player or Play Station in order to play the video from my camcorder? Is it absolutely sure that there is no DVD player out there (under $100) that will play my content?

You might be able to find one which plays MPEG-4, but it might not play it at HD resolutions. A standard DVD player is not an HD solution, especially one under $100.

Or, you can print it back to your camera and play the video from there.

Thank you very much David and everybody else helping me on this issue. I had to buy a Samsung Bluray which of course solved my problem. I freaking love the quality coming out of that thing. I prepared a project in Vegas, burned with DVDArchitect and the quality is super-awesome. It did cost me some money to buy the BlueRay player, way over $100, but I believe it is worth every penny.

Again thanks everybody
