Buy DVX or HD cam?

Rick,if you want to shoot true 16.9 in brilliant colour and don't mind a larger camera go for the XL2.if you shoot mostly 4.3 and want a compact camera, go for the DVX.Its differant strokes for differant blokes.Frustrating choices ,but whatever you buy today it will probably be superceded in 6 months.

Are you referring to the Sony hvr-z1u, or the lesser one? The HDR-Fx1?

The image quality out of both Z1U and FX1 are identical, save for an additional gamma curve.

As for the question at hand - the DVX image is highly adjustible. I would expect you could increase the colour saturation in-camera if you so-desired. I've had fun doing that on the FX1 of late, and the folks here will assure you that the DVX has more image control options.

As for good/bad FX1 footage. Unless you have supreme confidence that the operator of the camera was attempting a "film look" - then it seems unlikely the camera would produce that. Furthermore, a lot can be done in post to get the results desired. I'd like to see some blind test 30P shootouts with polls from people with significant experience wth the cameras using optimal workflows to get the best image possible at SD. Have the votes, which will be clear from bias due to the blindness of the tests, and release the results.

OB1: Is the Century Optics .6X Wide Angle Adapter zoom through when using manual focus?
Partially, yes. You can zoom up to about Z60. Any further zooming will result in the picture going out of focus, but you can zoom freely from Z00 up to Z60.
