Okay, I know this sounds bizarre. But my Rycote Softie smells like a fish market. Came that way. It's like it's been dipped in spoiled fish oil.

I don't intend to return it over this--it's not really a potent smell, but it's there if you get close to it.

Is that normal? If so, does anyone know why the hell it smells that way?

I have a rycote to and mine doesn't have any oder. It might just be a dead racoon.

As a matter of fact, Rycote dips one in every 100 softies in spoiled fish oil. I thought everyone knew this. Anyway, it's a little contest that they run. If you get the coveted smelly softie, you get a free pistol grip and mount with your softie.

My Rycote Softie came from EVS with no objectionable smell.

I wouldnt keep anything described as a "smelly softie" or "used hairy dildo", especially if it involved HIV testing!!! Send it back! I dont think a spritz of febreeze ever fixes those types of problems. ;D ;D

Seriously, though, some fabrics come shipped smelling pretty bad and I was told that there is some sort of preservative that is actually based in a fish oil smelling stuff....but I could be way wrong. Good luck!
