Busy Bar and Live Concert

Hi,
Just wondering if any of you had any tips/experience working with live concerts in a crowded area (a pub)?

I'm recording a jazz concert in a busy area... I'm planning to use one mic specifically made for theatrical recording, but will probably want to use another in coordination, something that will pick up the band a little better.

Any thoughts on Microphone type and spacing?

It's not an emergency, but I would be grateful for your thoughts...thanks - janos

What type of jazz ensemble is it?

Are you trying to record just the band, or the sounds of the pub also?

What is the one mic you are planning on using?

In general, you want to get the mics as close to the band and as far from any extraneous noise (the crowd) as possible, and utilize the pickup pattern of the mic to nullify the unwanted sound further.

Thanks - I ended up using a combination of dynamic and shotgun mic (meant for theatrical recording)...

Didn't have time to post again before the concert.. I'll let you know how it turned out for future resource/reference to newbies like myself.
