I received a quote request:
"for use in a training program, I am interested in making a DVD of simulated patient interviews between a primary care physician (we will supply someone for this role) and a patient (you would supply a male actor for this role) -- we will thoroughly script these vignettes which will amount to about 20-30 minutes of total tape.

We assume all could be shot at a location you would find and supply to resemble a physician's office and that all production could be accomplished in a day.

We'd like a bid to include pre-production, production, and post-production costs to produce two (2) copies of a master tape stock and protection with closed captioning."

This is a quote request from Suicidology.org, the associatioon against suicide.

I honestly don't know how to react to this. I know - probably out of my lane right now, but I was just curious on to how to react to this in the future.

Have you already met with them? If they're providing an actor and a script then chances are, given their line of work, they might be able to help you with an office backdrop.

They want you to provide an actor, maybe a location, production work that will be, "accomplished in a day." The actor's cost will depend on his skill level, credentials, SAG., etc, so, are you asking for opinions on how to bill them? Pre-production through completion should be a few days at least, so.....your day rate times 4, plus the cost of the actor, and a crew, if you need it? Then editing 20-30 minutes of footage, probably another few days, depending on how you work, and how involved they are with creative changes.

I'm in the SF Bay area, and as a point of reference, the company I work for just paid a film company to come in and do a, "Let's make fun of our corporate big-wigs" video for the all-hands quarterly meeting. The film company wrote the script, provided voice-overs, shot and edited everything and added simple graphics. We provided the CEO, and other corporate officers, as well as the location (our campus at Yahoo!) The company charged us 25K, so I've heard, and we've used them 2-3 times since then.

I was thinking $US1,000.00/minute of finished footage, which sounds approx like what BradFu's company ended up paying for his project. ALSO, the CC stuff can be significantly expensive. Subtitles might even be better, but they are significant as well.
