Burning to DVD

Hey all, quick quesiton.

I have complete my Camp's Summer DVD and am now wondering which brand i should use to Burn to DVD for television playback.

I noticed that using maxell's they work on about half of the players, and i have 30 people who paid 5 bucks for a DVD, i dont want them to have something that their reader cant read. That being said, i am fully aware that no DVD will read on 100% of players, but what is the best DVD make for majority of DVD TV playbacks which you guys either know effective, or have heard or read somewhere?

Thanks

-Jon

Actually, if you haven't bought them yet, I'd go with the DVD-R. I have been using TDKs that I got from Costco. I have yet to have anyone tell me it didn't work in their machine.

So for me, it's been: TDK and DVD-R

kewl, thanks man

anyone know any other good name brands? i.e. maxel, sony, verbatim, memorax.

PaPa, I think that Verbatim is number one in DVD's and CD's. Right behind him are TDK's which are very reliable, Sony are ok but I had trouble reading them on some older players. So I would recommend Verbatim for sure. I'm using them and had no troubles with them. And you won't be wrong going with the TDK. I had good experience with them too.

The biggest things I've found are specific burners will burn specific brands more reliably... one of my burners is a TDK, for the first year I had it I could only burn TDK discs reliably but they would play on 95% players and then about two years ago I was able to start to use Sony discs with about the same ratio... also the slower the speed you burn at the better...

-R are read by more but sadly my burner recently started refusing to burn them so I've been stuck with +Rs. +R is a better format though so if you think your clients have newer players then go with that.

I'm surprised everyone here is recommending the general DVDs that can be bought in a local non-specialty store. Anywhere else this question has been posed or the issue has otherwise come up, people seem to be sparring between Ritek and Taiyo-Yuden. PaPa, look at this group of posts CORUSA made in one of my threads ... Hope this helps.

Also, make sure you are printin diect to printable discs. We use a MB PrintFactory 2 which gives awesome direct to DVD printing on Taiyo-Yuden Printable Silver Matte (also dont use anything other than RITEK or Taiyo-Yuden media or else you will have people complaining about glitchy DVDs.

And if you cant afford those just remember this...stay FAR FAR FAR away from ProDisc and Linkyo...probably the worst DVDs on the market by far.

Also, you might want to try the Taiyo-Yuden Silver Printable, since Ritek only has a White Printable. The Silver printables, after printed, have a florentine look and it looks like the original disc was printed with 2 layers, a really cool effect when printing on printable silver rather that printable white. Also make sure to never burn a master above 4x if you have an 8x or 16x DVD-R...if you have a 4x DVD-R dont burn above 2x :)

Oh, by the way, best place to get media...I promise you will never find it cheaper. Been using them for 5 years.

For burn speed...when you burn at higher than 4x you will get input and output errors, and while your master may look fine on a few DVD players, the copies you make from that master will glitch, stall, and pixellate on other brand DVD players.

Anyway, always burn at 1/4th the rated speed on the DVD to avoid I/O errors.
