Burning to dvd and storing projects?

so i asked a while back the best way to save and store my final projects in FCP, someone told me to just save them in file>export>quicktime movie. so thats what i did, i have too many projects so i delete all the files besides the final project.
now going back to play my movies it says i need these files and the video wont play, so im screwed. so i was wondering what is the best way to store all my finished projects that will be in full quality and good to burn to dvd?

i also had most of them saved as .mov files for back up, and they look great on the computer. but when i just tried to burn these files to a dvd, they came out awful on my tv. so since i cant burn .mov files to a dvd, would i be best off opening up these .mov files in FCP then resaving them as file>export>quicktme movie then burning to a dvd? will this mess up the quality? if so, agian, what should i store my final projects as if not .mov or quicktime movies?

and when i first finish a project and burn it to a dvd using file>export>quicktime movie, it looks good, except that the black bars at the top and bottem of my screen (from shooting in both stretch mode and letterbox) seam to change size a little bit and leave a fast flashing look at the border b/w the video and black bar. it doesnt really do it when the shot is dark and closeup, but establishing shots and white backgrounds cause it to happen really bad, is there any way to fix this, or should i just not use widescreen when planning on burning to a dvd? also when i burned my .mov files, the black bars at the top and bottem were bigger than burning the quicktime movie files, why is that and which is the correct size?

sorry if this is hard to understand, i dont know how to word most of this without showing you.

What you did was export a Quicktime Movie...but you DIDN'T check the SELF CONTAINED box. If you don't do that, then you export what is known as a "reference movie," a file that references the master clips on your Scratch Drive. If you exported SELF CONTAINED, using the sequence settings and not recompressing, then a new movie file would have been made...one that doesn't reference that media. That is what happened. Man...sorry about that.

HOW did you burn them to a DVD? You really need to use COmpressor to take your final QT exports and use the BEST QUALITY settings, then take the result into DVD SP and author the disks. If you used iDVD, it might not look the best.

wow, thanks for the great help... the thing is i am using idvd and dont have dvd sp. so i just saved my most recent project doing file>export>quicktime movie and checking the self contained box. the file is very big now, i wont be able to fit much on a dvd. and this file wont go into compressor.
were you saying put that file into compreessor or the .mov's i had stored earlier? sorry ive just never used this stuff and trying to learn on my own just cost me my full quality versions of over 15 projects.
