burning real player files?

Unless the DVD player supports Real format (do any?), you'll have to convert to MPEG-2 in order to make a playable DVD. Depending on the compression, I can only imagine how bad that would look.

Well, There are few ways to convert RMVB (Its the worst format ever...), but BY FAR The easiest one I've found is:

WinAVI Video Convertor, this does a One click convert to DVD burn option its really neat and for some weird reason its does the conversion waaay to quickly (at least on my computer) no doubt some mojo is going on.

Enjoy...

PS, wanted to add the GUI may look a bit Gay, but heck if it does the job.....

yeah REAL format on a dvd, yuck. I hope its something that doesnt require any amount of detail. David and Anhar both have good suggestions here.

i need somehing for mac. Real is always my last choice, but i didnt have options here, thats what it is. That said, on my monitor the quality is great. Frame rate, rez, and color are perfect if anyone was wondering.

well actually I've done it and the picture aint all that bad.... its not great but...watchable.

David, what did you mean by "POS" (I'm not aware of that word/shorthand).

Hmmmm A Mac you say... sorry dont know much about Macs I'm PC head.

Well, "POS" isn't nice. I didn't mean any offense by it, but WinAVI is really, really bad. Unless they've vaaaaaaaaastly improved it over the last year or so.

Call it a POS if you will, but it'd be way more constructive to offer an alternative. Converting Real to anything else is pretty much never anything less than an exercise in POS. So, that begs the question, anyone have a better recommendation to transcode Real files?

Any possible solutions for Mac OSX? I've googled abit just to find garbage and i am stuck with this file that needs to be converted as well... Damn, just when I thought i couldn't use a pc...

Real is a Joke, the company is dead and the format is dead aswell, I would do a "Clone" or "Mirror" output into a camera threw svideo, then back into a Editing program, Export as AVI or Whatever you want.

very true... REAL Media is sooo fake and it is the biggest headache to work with... i would definitely do that next time someone sends me a realmedia file; being that i don't have my cam with me right now i have found something to convert the file with that is not the simplest or easiest of things to work with, but ffmpegX is getting the job done...

peace and thanx,
elijah

As long as you can convert the video to another format using your tool of choice (Blaze MP, Total Video Converter, etc.), make sure that you use your NLE to place the video into some sort of creative matte background to allow you to keep the original video dimensions but still fill the screen with something nice. I've done this a bunch with some lame camera phone vids and got some good, or at least watchable stuff. My ususal matte of choice involves some sort of CRT device like an old TV or computer screen.

Bottom line: work with what you have. It's better than not having a solution.

Heck, I'm having the same problem. I have these stupid RMVB files that I want to edit and no software that I have works for it. Will this WinAVI help?

Yes, it will work, as I had posted earlier. It has a "One Click"solution that takes the Real file and converts it to DVD ready vob files ready to burn, how much easier do you want it?

Of course, worse comes to worse, use your TV out and connect to a DVD recorder (standalone) and record to a blank DVD.

Heck whats the price of those DVD recorders (standalone) this days?
