Burning DVDs and they are really dark (DVDSP 1.5) what am I missing?

So I have pretty much exhausted every resource that I can think of, and am still coming up a bit empty on this one.

Here's the puzzle:

- I shoot (dvx100, naturally),
- log and capture into FCP 3.0 using a small Sony miniDV handheld via firewire (don't want to mess with the heads on the dvx),
- and edit in FCP 3.0.
- Video looks great on my monitors, and when view viewed via S_video on an external monitor (colors, blacks, hues, contrast, etc. all nice)
- I export to mpeg2 using FCP's built in export function
- I import into DVDSP 1.5
- I preview the video in DVDSP
- I burn a DVD and ........
- All of the colors, especially the balcks are really really dark and murky. It looks absolutely terrible.

Is this a 7.5 versus 0 IRE issue?

Do I need something like a DSR-11 to "correct" the imports/view correct color levels?

What am I missing from my setup? (could it be DVDSP 2.0 / 3.0?)

I usually deliver video on miniDV but now I'm being asked for DVDs and this is a big problem.
